Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State and Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State have been reconciled in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on March 2, 2021, a sequel to the peace moves initiated by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa.
One should recall that Governor Mohammed, on 12th February 2021, supported the herdsmen carrying AK-47, claiming that it was part of self-defense against cattle rustlers. However, on 22nd February 2021, Governor Ortom differed with Mohammed’s defense citing harms and tribulations herders’ AK-47 had done to Nigerians, especially farmers. He demanded Governor Mohammed to apologize to Nigerians for his clannishness, insensitivity, and a threat to life.
The question to answer is whether the issues of herdsmen carrying AK-47 have been resolved. Until it is answered both governors may be romancing the stone.
