Eddy Kapend and 22 soldiers accused of involvement in the assassination of Laurent Kabila are freed

After nearly twenty years of imprisonment for the alleged participation in the assassination of President Laurent Kabila, Eddy Kapend and 22 soldiers have been pardoned by the Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi, who succeeded President Joseph Kabila.

Justice at last could be best to describe the release of these soldiers which many believed that were wrongly accused. Most Congolese and observers saw the soldiers as scapegoats.

The earlier appeals to President Joseph Kabila of Democratic Republic of Congo to release the soldiers failed.
