SEXUAL TERRORISM: Ekiti State High Court sentenced a 27-year-old man to life imprisonment

Mr Farotimi Samuel, a 27-year-old man, who was alleged to be part of those that raped a 14-year-old girl at Oke-Ureje, Federal Polytechnic Road, Ado Ekiti, on 29th January 2018, has been found guilty as charged and sentenced to life imprisonment by Justice Adekunle Adeleye of Ekiti State High Court in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State.

His life imprisonment was as a result of a contravention of sections 516 of the Criminal code, 31 of the Child Right Law, Cap C16 and C7, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

In the court, the raped victim narrated her ordeal. She noted that on her way back home, after buying some foodstuffs for the family, that three men waylaid, overpowered, and took her to a completed building, and raped her.

It was the end of the road for one of the rapists whom the victim remembered and identified. He was arrested, prosecuted and imprisoned according to the provisions of the law.

The sentence should serve as a lesson to rapists, whether young or old, on the consequences of indulging in raping.

Parents and guardians should be conscious and protective of their children being prey to the rapists. They should inculcate ethical values in their children to mould them against engaging in sexual terrorism.

Raping does not pay. Youths should avoid those vices that could tempt them into such inhuman activities.
