END OPEN GRAZING: Northern Governors Forum supports ranching

Reality is gradually dawning on northern Nigeria as the Northern Governors Forum led by Governor Solomon Lalong of Plateau State, agreed on Tuesday 10th February 2021 that open razing is primitive and outdated. Open grazing is the movement of cattle by herdsmen in search of pasture in various parts of Nigeria. The Governors’ Forum called for an end to the open grazing system and appealed to the herdsmen to embrace ranching culture.

To effect this decision peacefully, the Forum decided to sensitize the herdsmen on the need for ranching, which is applicable in various parts of the world.

The Forum appealed to the Federal Government to assist them with grants to effect the project. They also appealed to the Southerners in Nigeria to give peace a chance, and live in harmony with other Nigerians irrespective of ethnic or religious background.
