Love is in the air, yeah! Gifts are already exchanging hands! It’s Valentine’s Day, yes that is what’s on everybody’s lips! What is this Valentine’s Day all about?
Valentine’s Day is a day people express their feelings of love, affection, care, and friendship for others by exchanging gifts, messages and possibly spending quality time together.
The day gets its name from the famous Saint Valentine, who was a priest from Rome in the third century AD. He changed the status quo by breaking rules and a ban on marriage decreed by Emperor Claudius II, who thought that married soldiers would not make good warriors. Valentine challenged the norm because he felt this was unfair and therefore secretly performed marriages to those affected.
Valentine’s Day is widely assumed to be a day of love more than any other day of the year, and it has come to stay despite the disputing views about it.
The emergence of coronavirus and its resultant global lockdown has emphasized more than before an ever-increasing need for a human to human relationships and interactions.
Valentine’s Day is celebrated every year on 14th February and has become a very popular day globally. Even, the entertainment and hospitality industry are seriously cashing out on this very notable day. They have further amplified its significance by creating and churning out shows and events to commemorate it like; couple dinners, Valentine’s weekend getaways, boat cruises, comedy nights, musical concerts, art exhibitions, films, and so on. Most of these events exorbitantly priced with people paying a premium to be part of them, leaving those who cannot meet up to lick their wounds or even question the authenticity of their “love”.
Even though some are staunchly opposed to celebrating Valentine’s day, the fact is that it has come to stay! Some folks have turned this nobly intended day into a day to dish out sex and engage in a different form of risky behaviours and harmful practices that have negative far-reaching effects. In fact, if Saint Valentine were to be resurrected and saw what the day has been turned to, he would literally opt for the day to be scrapped! The deceit, lies, and evils do not depict the noble intentions of Valentine. Sex is not love!
But, is valentine’s Day only for couples/lovers? The world deserves more sweetness and kindness, don’t you think so?
I think everyone needs their emotional tank to be filled; I think everyone deserves love, care, kindness, and bliss.

1. Make memorable meals together as a family. Excite your taste buds with mouth-watering dishes that elevate your moods and bring togetherness.
2. Make Valentine’s Day decorations/ crafts (handcrafted greeting cards and gifts) together as a family and give out to families, neighbors, and loved ones.
3. Have a Valentine’s day themed photoshoot.
4. Appreciate and affirm each member of your family. Tell each of them how uniquely special they are and how blessed you are to have them decorate and spice up your life.
5. Say “I love you” to your family members and give them tight hugs.
6. Play games together.
7. Have a family picnic. Cook a valentine’s Day meal and step out with your family to a beautiful park, resort, or beach and enjoy a refreshing and quality time outside the home.
8. Watch a movie, attend musical concerts or visit the zoo or other tourist attractions together as a family.
9. Touch lives by donating to charity as a family, doing community work together, and visiting places like orphanage homes and hospitals, giving them a sense of belonging, providing them with some much-needed emotional boost.
