EX-SARS TO DIE BY HANGING: Justice Ohimai Ovbiagele sentenced Joseph Omotosho to death

Justice Ohimai Ovbiagele of Benin High Court, relying on overwhelming pieces of evidence, has sentenced to death by hanging Mr. Joseph Omotosho, a sacked police officer (ex-SARS), for the killing of a 26-year-old Benson Obodeh, a car dealer, around 21st May 2015. The sentence was delivered on 12th February 2021.

Among those that allegedly conspired with Joseph Omotosho to kill Obodeh, are Henry Shobowole, Oniyo Musa, Adeleke Adedeji, and Abena John. Four of them escaped from Benin Correctional Centre (prison) during the #endSARS jailbreak that occurred in Benin capital, Edo State. Their sentences are pending.

It was alleged that before the murder of Benson Obodeh, that Joseph Omotosho gained access to Obodeh’s Automated Teller Machines card the PIN number withdrew N330,000. After judgment, Abraham Oviawe who represented the prosecuting counsel noted that “what has happened today is a confirmation of the biblical position that says the wages of sin is death. So when one conspires to take the life of another man.”
