MAGU REPLACED AS EFCC CHAIRMAN: President Buhari appoints Abdulrasheed Bawa

President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the President of the Senate, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan seeking the Senate cooperation and confirmation of Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa as substantive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in accordance with Paragraph 2(3) of Part1, CAP E1 of EFCC Act 2004.

The 40- year-old Abdulrasheed Bawa is to replace Mohammed Umar, who had begun acting as EFCC boss since July 2020 due to the suspension of Ibrahim Magu as the EFCC Chairman. This is a period when the report of Justice Ayo Salami-led panel set up by the presidency to investigate Magu’s alleged misconduct is not yet made public.

Bawa is a Second Class Upper Economics graduate from Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto, in 2001. He joined EFCC from inception and has trained and investigated many cases.
