On 16th February 2021, Justice Ahmed Mohammed of Abuja High Court refused to grant an order of interim injunction seeking to restrain Adamu Mohammed from parading himself as the Inspector General Police (IGP) having attained retainment age, and also to compel the President and Nigeria Police Council (NPC) to appoint a new IGP.
Barrister Maxwell Opara who instituted the suit (FHC/ABJ/CS/106/21) supported his argument with section 215 of the Nigerian Constitution and section 7 of the Nigeria Police Act, 2020. He maintained that IGP Mohammed’s tenure extension is illegal and unconstitutional.
Justice Ahmed Mohammed ruled that since Adamu Mohammed and other respondents had already been served and still within time to respond to the suit that it would be unfair to grant an order of interim injunction.
