Tension is gradually building at the Christian mission schools in Kwara State over the insistence of the Muslim students wearing a special Islamic scarf called Hijab in the schools.
However, the schools’ authorities vowed not to allow Hijab wearing in the schools since it is against the school Christian doctrine. To enforce the school rules, all the students that came to school with Hijab were barred from entering the school premises.
Meanwhile, ten mission schools have been closed by the Kwara State government to deescalate the heated situation. Added to that, Rafiu Ajakaye, governor’s spokesperson, noted that a committee has been set up to dialogue on the matter.
