“TO BE HONEST AND OBEDIENT”: Samia Hassan becomes Tanzanian President

Tanzania, a country that late President Julius Nyerere molded, has got her first female president, President Samia Suluhu Hassan, a 61-year-old amiable Muslim from Zanzibar, after the death of President John Magufuli of Tanzania, whose tenure should have ended in 2025. President John Magufuli was alleged to have died of heart-related disease, although many suspected that covid-19 could have been the cause.

Samia studied Public Administration before becoming a politician. During her swearing-in in Dar es Salaam, she promised to the people of Tanzania “to be honest and obey and protect the constitution of Tanzania.” Time will tell the extent her public experience will contribute to the growth and development of Tanzania, a country located in the East of Africa.
