“If you see the president of the Philippines killing her youths for drug dealings. If you see Malaysian and Singapore committing drug merchants to the death penalty, you would not but sit back to think deeply about why going to that extent to curb the drug menace.
“There is actually no fanfare on drug wars. In fact, many sophisticated countries like America, Malaysia, Singapore et al are still carrying out robust wars on drugs. Have they succeeded and if they have, what instruments did they apply? The financial cost is heavy and manpower needed for the war is readily available to them. Most countries even with the death penalty for traffickers still catch people who believe they can always beat the system.
“In truth, the introduction of foils by traffickers to evade computer search was working until a new method was introduced -Sniffer dogs and human detective intelligence.
“Now mkpurummiri ( methamphetamine, also called Crystal ice) is here with us. We can see the rapid movements and their effects. You can see why the death penalty in places it has caused tremendous effects. The worse is, a greater percentage of the takers are within the region of adolescents. A generation has gone down and a new generation of addicts is about to be produced if not nipped on time.
“The glaring problem with Nigeria drug war is like the problem with Mexico. There are deep-rooted interests of networks that live large on the gains of drug proceeds. There are too many interests amongst officials of government, producers, and transnational dealers who are themselves citizens of the state. It will take a POLITICAL WILL to see the war won.
“Because of the peculiar nature of Igbo socio-cultural cum political system, we in ECOSANCTI propose a 2-way prong approach. It will be less expensive and less burdensome in terms of logistics.
