BARBADOS ISLAND IS A REPUBLIC: Rihanna the Barbadian receives National Hero honour

“I, Sandra Prunella Mason, do swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Barbados according to law, so help me God,” was an oath of office taken by the new president of Barbados. By the oath, the country becomes a republic, and Queen Elizabeth II ceased as the Head of State.

Prince Charles represented the 95-year-old queen on the historic occasion. Rihanna, a Barbadian singer, was honoured as a National Hero.

Barbados is a small island country in the Caribbean Islands, with a population of fewer than 500,000 people.
