On Wednesday, 27th January 2021, the Polish government enforced the judgment of a Polish Constitutional Court, which prohibited abortion except where threatening pregnancy, rape, and incest are involved.
The judge, in his judgement, on 23rd October 2020, noted that the unborn child, just like the born child, is a human being that should enjoy the same right to life as enshrined in Poland’s constitution.
The government’s implementation of the judgement, after two months of delay, has caused large scale demonstrations in Poland, with many of the demonstrators claiming the right to abort unwanted pregnancy.
Many think that such anti-abortion law could lead many Polish women to seek abortion abroad. But the Polish government, majorly influenced by Catholic Church doctrines is not showing any willingness to legalized abortion.
