The South African government has called on Guernsey’s auction house to stop the auction late Nelson Mandela’s prison cell keg in notorious Robben Island, South Africa.
According to South Africa’s culture minister, Nathi Mthethwa: “This key belongs to the people of South Africa…It is not anyone’s personal belonging.”
He noted that the South African government was not consulted before the auction scheduled to hold on 28th January 2022.
