The political drama between governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State and former governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha representing Imo West, has turned into a bloody scene. If care is not taken, the two giant masquerades may dance naked before the citizens that have sold their deference to them.
On the authority of the Governor of Imo State, Barrister Enyinna Onuegbu, Imo State Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Physical Planning, on Friday 19th February 2021, sealed the Royal Spring Palm hotel, Akachi road, Owerri, Imo State, alleged to be owned by Mrs. Nkechi Okorocha, the wife of Rochas Okorocha.
In reaction, on 21st February 2021, Senator Rochas Okorocha, his wife, political associates, and some security men visited the hotel, and allegedly removed the government seal, and entered the hotel premises claiming that no court order empowered the sealing.
Later, a group of people who claimed to be from the Imo State government came to the hotel and a fight erupted. Many people were wounded, and vehicles destroyed. In the words of Senator Rochas Okorocha to the Channels Television,
“I am still at a very deep shock and confused as to what is happening here. Particularly of note, what shocked me was the SA to the Governor pulled out his shirt, carried the machete himself and was coming to machete me while I was moved out.
“He was calling the boys ‘come, come.’ He was in charge and the police were following him. When they arrested me so to say, the SA to the Governor entered the pickup and came to the police station with their own video.
“They were making jest of me that there is only one governor in the state, there is only one immunity that they are going to deal with me. I can’t believe it.”
To maintain law and order, on the order of Nasiru Mohammed, Imo State Commissioner of Police, Senator Rochas Okorocha was arrested and taken to the Imo State Police Command. According to Okorocha, “I asked them, what is my offence? They said conspiracy and public disorder. So they said it was the governor that directed them, that made a report to arrest me.” Sequel to that, “the police whisked me into the pickup and brought me to the police station, I am here now. As I am here, they have not said anything to me.”
Meanwhile, the information reaching basklifenews has it following the alleged intervention of some APC governors headed by governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State that Senator Okorocha was released late in the evening yesterday, and to report back to the Police Command by 10 am this Monday morning. Credible information also has it that the presidency has directed the Inspector General of Police to investigate the matter between two political juggernauts.
