If anybody thinks that economic and financial transactions in Nigeria will continue to be business as usual, he is swimming in a hot water. Abdulrasheed Bawa, the new Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has made it clear his resolve to crack-down on the financial criminals. By 1st June 2021, in reliance on the Employees Declaration of Asset Act, the EFCC will be demanding from financial institutions the declaration forms of bankers’ assets.
Added to the above, the special Lauretta Onochie, Buhari’s Special Assistant on Social Media, warned through her tweet that “Lifestyle Audit is now legal in Nigeria. Those who flaunt lifestyles they cannot afford can now be investigated by any of the graft agencies to produce evidence of the sources of their wealth. You can now be called upon to explain how you acquired certain properties. -@ICPC_PE.”
So, if the display of an opulent lifestyle is in your blood, be ready to accept the forensic investigation of your assets by the EFFCC as a hobby.
