It is not in doubt that the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige is gasping to regain the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State after Senator Andy Uba took over the mantle of leadership.
Before the APC governorship primary election was held in Anambra State on 26th June 2021, the APC party provided all the aspirants equal opportunity to contest for the election. Many of the aspirants, especially Dr. Chidozie Nwankwo, spent much for the campaign.
Unfortunately, rather than showing leadership and neutrality, about two days to the APC primary election, it was rumoured that Ngige through his lieutenants asked all members of the party and political structures to join and vote for Engr. Johnbosco Onunkwo. It was a big shock to many aspirants that had spent huge sums of money on the campaign. Many viewed it as a betrayal. Unknown to all, Senator Andy Uba, a patient strategist, was ahead of all. After the alleged primary election, Senator Andy Uba was declared the winner.
Sensing that the party leadership in Anambra has slipped through his fingers, Ngige allegedly fought for the cancellation of the Anambra APC primary election but failed to convince the party. After that, Ngige hibernated and party leadership fell on Senator Andy Uba.
After the November 6 Anambra gubernatorial election, it was alleged that Ngige wanted to regain the leadership of the party from Andy Uba but the latter was unwilling to relinquish the power.
The new reality is that Senator Andy Uba is the leader of APC in Anambra State. The list of those who attended the caucus meeting at Senator Andy Uba’s office on 10th December 2021, shows clearly the head that wears the crown.
